The painting "The Word Made Flesh"

Jesus Gives New Life: A Joyous and Comforting Praying of the Psalms

by Barbara M. Kozera

These "New Life" Psalms reinforces the joyous and comforting celebration of Christian beliefs that includes the Holy Spirit teaching us and being in us as our "New Zion's along with the many different ways Jesus affects our lives as our Redeemer and Savior, hearing our prayers, forgiving us, and giving us new lives. Jesus is presented as Our Good Shepherd, our "Light" and at the appointed time, He will lead us to our New Jerusalem, the City of God in heaven.

Psalm 1  We are god's children; the lost need help

Happy are God's children for they do not follow the advice of the misguided
nor do they go the way of sinners.
The law of God is His Children's joy, God's Holy Spirit teaches them day and night.
God's child is like a tree planted by His stream of living water,
which yields its fruit in due season. Their leaves never wither
     and whatever they do prospers.
Not so the lost, the misguided! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.
Therefore the lost will need to be found and taught God's ways,
so they may also be in the assembly of God's children.
For the Lord our God watches over His children's ways so that none will be lost.

Psalm 16 Jesus gives us the "Bread of Life" for our Christian "New Lives"

You, Jesus, keep us safe; in Your abiding love we, God's children take refuge.
We pray to You, Jesus, for You are the source of all goodness.
Worthless are all false gods we make that can consume a person.
One can let the "lion of passion" be like a god; it will consume a person; eat you alive.
Let us ask for strength from Jesus to never let passion of mind or
flesh become like a god that consumes us.
Let us eat the "Bread of Life" and drink from the cup of a Christian "New Life"
that Jesus gave us at the Last Supper.
Jesus has measured out for us a new and pleasant place for us to dwell,
rich with the help and gifts of God the Holy Spirit. Indeed our heritage
flows from communion of the prophets and saints.
We give glory to God the Holy Spirit our counselor; for even during the dark
of night the Holy Spirit instructs us.
We keep our love for Jesus at our right hand we can never be shaken.
Therefore our hearts are glad and our souls rejoice; our flesh too is at peace.
For You Jesus, will not abandon us to the place for the dead like Sheol,
nor allow Your faithful servants to see  the endless abyss.
Jesus, You have sent us the gift of God the Holy Spirit,
to teach us the path of new life.
In Your presence there is fullness of joy; Your right hand leads us safely home.

Psalm 23 Jesus our Good Shepherd

The Lord Jesus is our shepherd; we have no needs.

Jesus leads the children of God to life giving lush pastures to eat and rest,
bountiful springs of living water flow into restful pools.
Our spirits soar, and they are renewed.
Our Good Shepherd leads us along the path of righteousness,
for Jesus' name is above all names.
Even though we walk through the valley near the shadow of death; we fear no danger for

You, Jesus, are at our side with Your rod and staff in hand that protects us.
Jesus, You have given us Your table to nourish us.  Your body and blood help us to see

and fight off our foes, those from within and  those around us.
Our heads You tenderly anoint with holy oil: our blessing cups overflow.
Your goodness and love flow in us all the days of our lives.
The Lord Jesus is our Good Shepherd!

Psalm 42  Hope in Jesus: the presence of the Holy Spirit is in us

As a deer yearns for running streams, so my soul yearns for You, God.
As a child of God, I thrist for You, the living God.
When shall I come and behold the face of God?
My tears had been my food day and night, as the misguided taunted me and ask,
     "Where is your God?
These things I remember, as I pour out my soul; how I went in procession
to the house of God with those who have taunted me.
We went amid loud cries of thanksgiving, the sounds of a great festival.
That is why you were so downcast, O my soul,  and why you were
     so disquieted within me.
There is hope in Christ Jesus; I praise Him, the Son of God, my Savior, my God.
When my soul was downcast, I remembered You, Jesus, and Your suffering.
From lands near and far we God's children think of You Jesus.
The Holy Spirit deep within me calls out to reach the deep Holy Spirit in all of God's
children. Your power O God the Holy Spirit, is like the power of waves
and breakers that can envelop a person.
Deep unto deep You call. Deep unto deep we must answer.
By day, the Lord Jesus bestows His faithful love, and at night His song is with me,
a prayer to the God of my life.
I am no longer harassed by the misguided, I no longer feel like mourning.
When the misguided reproached me it felt like my life was shattered.
My God is with me, my soul no longer feels downcast, and my soul is at peace.
Hope in God always! I will praise God forever! Glory to the Father, the Son,
and the Holy Spirit forever and ever! Savior, Jesus, thank You for Your great
sacrifice, Your holy and redeeming body and blood; our bread of new life.
   Amen! Amen!

Psalm 43  Hope in Jesus; the misguided must change

Vindicate Your children, O God; defend us from misguided ways,
from those who are deceitful and unjust.
For You are my strength, God, You do not abandon us.
We go about mourning with the misguided oppressing us, teach them Your ways as
     You teach us Your ways.
God, You sent us Your Son, Jesus, and the Holy spirit, the light and the truth,
they shall be our guides to lead us to Your holy mountain, to Your dwelling place in heaven
where we can come to Your altar O God. You are the God of our joy and delight.
Here we will praise You on the harp, O God, blessed trinity.
My soul, you can get so downcast as we wait, my soul can
groan with such yearning for You God.
But, we wait and hope in You Jesus, we praise You always,
You are my help, Savior, Jesus, my God.

Psalm 51  The mercy of Jesus our redeemer

You, Jesus, have let me feel Your Mercy, in Your gracious love
You have wiped away my offenses,
You are tenderly washing away all of my guilt; day by day my feet walk
upon a pathway to God, a little cleaner.
Your saving grace purifies me so I may become whiter than snow.
Against God's ways have I fallen, indeed I have sinned in Your sight.
Your saving justice has passed to me a merciful sentence; You Jesus,
are full of justice and mercy.
Is it true that all of the children of God are born guilty,
     sinners from our conception?
For You, god desire sincerity from a person's soul and to those who ask,
     You teach wisdom.
Purify me with hyssop, until I am clean; wash me until I am whiter than snow.
Let me hear the sounds of joy and gladness; let my brokenness be healed
and let my spirit dance for joy.
You, most merciful Jesus, have turned Your face away from my sins
and have wiped away my guilt.
You, Jesus, have created a new clean spirit within me.
You will not let me stray from Your presence, nor let Your Holy Spirit leave me.
Jesus, You have restored my joy through Your mercy and love.
Please continue to sustain Your Holy Spirit within me.
I will teach those who struggle on Your pathway, God, and those who have
lost the way so all of Your children can return to You.
You have rescued me from eternal death, Lord Jesus, my Savior.
Let my tongue always speak of Your saving justice, O Holy Spirit, open my lips
and let my mouth sing the praises of God the Father, the Son, Jesus,
     and the Holy Spirit.
   For without a broken humbled spirit any sacrifice means nothing to You, God;
     any offering would be unacceptable.
Our brokenness is an acceptable sacrifice to You God,
for a contrite heart You will never spurn.
In Your gracious love, Jesus, help our new Zion's, the Holy Spirit within us grow.
Help us to rebuild the walls of our new lives brick by brick, oe day at a time.
Let our contrition be pleasing to You, Jesus, as You have given us yourself on
     the cross for our redemption.

Psalm 56  Jesus hears our pleas for help against the misguided.

Jesus, You are so gracious to Your friends, all the while the misguided treat us
with such malice.  These misguided ones trample on the innocent at every opportunity.
When I was afraid I called out to You, Jesus, for we are bonded in love and trust.
Graciously Jesus, You, gave me strength and protection to ally any fears.
Your promise for new life is true.
There is nothing mortals of flesh and bones can do or say that will cause me to fear again.
O Most High God, why do the misguided plot against the innocent with each new day?
The actions of the misguided stir up strife, always hatching plots to snare the innocent?
O Jesus, searcher of hearts, You watch over the actions of all people. You alone will deal
with each person according to his or her actions the misguided will want to repent.
Jesus, You have noted what has brought sorrow into my life. Tears that have
flowed down my checks, You did catch them in Your loving hand.
Those trapped in the snares of their own misguided ways, lash out at Your children,
O God, for they know their end is near.
This I know, there is no doubt, that You God are on the side of the innocent.
Jesus, I sing my praises to You, for Your promise of our new life.
For we are bonded in trust and love and there is nothing to fear.
There is nothing mere mortals of flesh and bones can do or say that can make us fear.
We are Your children O God and You have accepted our vows to love.
Our actions of serving one another are our offering to You, God.
Jesus has snatched Your children from the grasp of sin and death
and kept us on Your pathway, God.
We can walk in this life with the light of Your love shining in us.

Psalm 65 Praises for God and Jesus Our Savior

To You we owe our hymns of praise, O God for our new Zion's, the Holy spirit within us.
To You, our vows to do god's ways must be fulfilled. You Jesus, hear our prayers.
All humanity must come to You, Jesus with their sinfulness.
Our faults can overwhelm us, but You, God have sent us Your son Jesus our Savior
      to pardon our sinful ways.
How blessed whom You choose God, and invite to dwell in Your beautiful garden
     in paradise.
We Your children are filled with the Holy spirit's fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
     generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
You answer us with awesome deeds of Your justice, Jesus for You are the hope of all
peoples to the ends of the earth spanning the far distant seas.
Jesus, You are robed in power, You positioned the mountains by Your power,
You calm the roaring of the seas, and the pounding of the waves.
You still the turmoil of people.
   Distant people stand in awe of Your marvels;
east and west make to resound with joy.
You, God care for the earth and make it fruitful; You enrich it greatly.
The river of god is full of living water, You provide Your children with
the finest wheat, for You have prepared Your land. You water its' furrows
abundantly, settling its' ridges, softening the land with showers
     and blessing the young sprouts.
You crown the year with Your bounty; Your paths drip with fruitful rain.
The open pastures are lush and hills are robed in joy.
   The meadows are clothed with flocks, the valleys blanketed with grain;
Your children O God shout for joy and break into songs.

Psalm 75  Jesus will judge the earth; praises for Jesus

God's children are grateful to You, Jesus we try to grasp the magnitude
of Your love for us, but we cannot.
We call upon Your name for so much, Jesus; let us never forget Your great sacrifice.
At the appointed time, You will judge us with equity.
The earth and all life will feel the earthquake, at the appointed time,
for it is You who hold the earth's foundation.
We say to the boastful: "Do not flaunt yourselves. Do not
     speak with such arrogance!"
For judgment comes not from the east or from the west, nor from
the desert or the mountain, but from Jesus.
It is God's Son, Jesus, who judges, putting down one and raising up others.
For in the hand of Jesus is a cup of foaming blended wine, the misguided will drink
their fill including the dreg as they are called to repent.
But we, the children of God, shall declare Your wonderful deeds forever, Jesus.
We shall sing and make music to God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The God of Jacob, Israel, struggled with God's ways, but have we not all struggled
with God's ways in our lives?
Is it not this same God that the misguided still struggle with?
And is it not Jesus who will break down their strength and their  prideful voices?
Thank You, Jesus, for being so very patient and loving with us.

Psalm 88 Jesus hears our prayers, help, and the Holy spirit teaches us.

O Lord Jesus, my God, my Savior, at night You hear the plea of my anguished prayer.
My prayer has come before You, Jesus, You have turned Your ear and heard
my plea for help. My soul has ben so full of troubles and my life felt close to the
land of the dead, like Shoel.
   I felt like those whom You remember no more;
my sins were drawing me into a dark hopeless abyss.
The weight of my mis deeds lies heavy upon me. so that I Your servant O Lord Jesus,
can learn Your ways, You, have allowed me to feel lonely pits of isolation.
Your lessons O Lord Jesus, were so heavy upon me that I felt all
of Your ways crashing upon me like the mighty waves of the sea.
Your lessons put divisions between my friends and me, the wanted nothing
to do with me. There was no way out but to love.
Through the long days I prayed to You, Jesus, my hands reached out for Yours.
You took my hands Jesus I know that You touch the lives of the living
     and we sing Your praises.
We the children of God proclaim our love.  For You Jesus have freed us
from our old misguided lives and brought us to new life.
You have given us eternal life, Jesus, and we proclaim the marvels of Your light,
Your just ways we proclaim in all lands.
I prayed for help, O Savior, and You have answered. In the morning when
the suns light dispels the dark of night; my grateful prayer flows to You.
You Jesus have not rejected, m, one who is mere flesh and bones.
But in Your great love, Jesus, the Holy Spirit has taught me.
I have felt the blows of Your lessons, and have been reduced to silence. Your lessons
have swept upon me like a crashing wave, All day Your lessons surge around me like
a flood, from every side. Your lessons are there.
My friends who feared me and prayed for me gather around me once again.
In Your light Jesus we all find peace and we all feel the guiding hand of the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 107   Jesus our redeemer helps us in our needs

O, let us give thanks to Jesus, for He is gracious; and His love is with us for all time.

Let our love be one with God, for Jesus has redeemed us into new life.
We the children of God, Jesus gathers from every land; from the  east and from the west,

from the north and from the south.
Some had lost their way in a barren desert; they found no pathway to the "City of God."

They were hungry and thirsty; their soul was ebbing away.
In their great distress they appealed to Jesus, who lovingly rescued
         the lost from their plight.
Jesus led the lost back to the God's pathway so they could reach the "City of God."
Let us all be grateful for His loving concern over the children of God.

Such gracious acts Jesus renders for us who are mere flesh and bones.
For Jesus fills our cups to overflowing with "living waters"  and He feeds us the  bread

of life and the fruit of the grape vine.  So we are One in flesh and  One in spirit.
Some sojourners live in a world of darkness and gloom, feted in misery as if in chains.
For these sojourners had defied the will and laws of God, they scorned the counsel
of the Holy Spirit, wanting everything their way.
God humbled their hearts through hardship; alone they stumbled and fell.
When these sojourners appealed to Jesus for help, He saved them from their plight.
Jesus led them out of their gloom and darkness and broke their chains of misery.
Let us all be grateful for His loving concern over the children of God.
Such gracious acts Jesus renders to us who are mere flesh and bones.
     For Jesus will open the door, that is as hard as bronze, for all who ask;
He will free us from the old life, which feels like prison bars and bring us into new life.
     Some sojourners acted like fools thereby causing their actions to be misguided;
          these iniquities brought afflictions.
     These sojourners were brought to loath all manner of food;
they drew near to the gates of death.
When these sojourners appeared to Jesus for help, He saved them from their plight.
Jesus sent forth His word to heal them and rescued their life from death, the great abyss.
Let us all be grateful for His loving concern over the children of God.
Such gracious acts Jesus renders to us who are mere flesh and bones.
O, let us give thanks to Jesus, for He is gracious; for His love is with us for all time.
Some sojourners traversed the sea in ships; they plied their trade sailing
from harbor to harbor on the vast seas.
     These sojourners could see the works of God in their journeys upon the mighty sea;
His voice could arouse a powerful stormy wind that would cause towering waves
lash their ships. Their ships would rise upon the waves toward heaven, and then
fall down to the depths of the mighty sea.
The very hearts of these sojourners trembled with fear, their bodies would reel
and stagger like drunkards; their sailing skill was to no avail.
When these sojourners appealed to Jesus for help, He saved them from their plight.
Jesus hushed the storm to a murmur; the waves of the mighty sea were stilled.
There was great rejoicing that the sea grew calm, that Jesus brought them
          to a safe harbor.
Let us all be grateful for His loving concern over the children of God.
Such gracious acts Jesus renders to us who are mere flesh and bones.
Let us all praise God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit when we gather to pray.
For God can change rivers into desert and bring forth springs of water to cover
          a thirsty ground.
The land of those who do not follow God's ways, can be changed from a fruitful land
          to a salty wasteland.
But to those who follow God's ways a desert land can be filled with pools of living water,
arid land can flow with springs of living water.
In this land flowing with living water God will fill those who hunger
for doing God's will. They will build a City of God for themselves and each other.
These that sojourn doing God's will sow fields and plant vineyards and reap
          an abundant harvest.
God will bless them and they too will become abundant with great herds of livestock.
But to those who made people poor and hungry God will pour out discipline.
They will wander a trackless wasteland where their pride will diminish
and they will be bowed down low.
God will raise up the poor in spirit and release them from their affliction.
At the sight of seeing God's mercy the just, who walk in God's way, rejoice.
Let those who seek wisdom take heed of these words, and ponder the great mercy
of God the Father, God the Son, Jesus, and God the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 111 Praises about Jesus our Savior

Hallelujah! Children of God give praises to God before the Lord Jesus Christ
     on our Christian communities.
Gather together, O people of God and delight in the works of Jesus,
ponder His words and all that He has done.
Words full of truth, His words are majestic, glorious miracles
with righteousness flowing through all ages forever and ever.
Jesus, Your life among us still lives!
For we sing and speak of Your great deeds our salvation and miracles like
healing the blind man. You Jesus, are gracious and merciful.
You, Jesus. give to those who fear and love You the nourishment of the Holy Spirit.
We are ever mindful of Your covenant between God and us. As the people in days
past have seen, so we now see the awesome works that You,
Jesus, accomplish on our behalf.  You can lead us into the fertile new lans
of the Holy Spirit where we are taught.
Your hands reach out, spreading righteousness, and Your mouth speaks truth Jesus.
The decrees of god are established forever and ever;  we must live them in fidelity
     and honesty.
Through Your great sacrifice, Jesus, our Savior, You brought salvation to all the peoples
of the world. God's covenant is law for all time.
Your name, Jesus, is holy and awesome. To those who fear Your name comes wisdom.
Those who choose to live by the wisdom of God are prudent and wise.
O children of God, let us sing the praises of Jesus, the Messiah, forever and ever.

   Psalm 113   Praises for Jesus

        Hallelujah!  Hallelujah!
O, words that flow from our mouths form praise to God, the Father, the Son,
and the Holy spirit. O, praise the name of Jesus.
Blessed is the name of Jesus, now and forever.
Let day break with the sun rising, until the evening when the sun sets,
be a chorus of praise to Lord Jesus.
The Lord Jesus is exalted over all nations, His glory radiates through the heavens.
Who is like Jesus, our God, enthroned on high, looking down on heaven and earth?
Jesus extends His hand and raises the needy from the dust,
He lifts the poor from the ash heap.
Jesus raises the poor and lets their spirits soar nobler now than the princes
     of the earth.
Jesus can find a home for a childless wife, who becomes a joyful mother of children,
for Nothing is impossible for God.
      Hallelujah!   Hallelujah!

Psalm 119 An acrostic poem that uses the verses of each stanza with the same  letter of
the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet with the theme being the importance
of God's word.  Following are a few excerpts.

   Gimel   Do God's will

Gracious are You, Lord Jesus, to Your friends, You grant us life, help us to keep
     the word of God.
Open our eyes that we may see the wonders of Your law.
Sojourners on Your earth are we; help us to understand Your will.
Our souls long to do Your will, O God, strengthen our weak flesh
     to keep Your commands.
Jesus, You rebuke the arrogant and the proud who stray from Your commands.
Even if rulers speak against Your servant, nothing will stop Your servant
from doing Your will O god.
Your decrees are a delight, for they counsel Your servant.

Zain  Your ways flow through us during the night

Zion, old and our new Zion's, You are mindful of O God, so too are You mindful of the
word given to Your servants, for Your words build up our hope.
In both our times of comfort and times of distress, Your promises, Jesus
     enrich our lives.
Though the arrogant utterly scorn us, we do not turn from Your teachings.
When we think of Your deeds from days past, e are comforted, Jesus.
Indignation seizes us when we hear of evil deeds for evildoers
     have forsaken Your law.
Your laws, O god become our songs wherever we make our home.
Throughout the night, we keep Your name in mind, God the Father, God the Son,
Jesus, and God the Holy Spirit; Your ways too, flows through us during the night.
What a great blessing indeed to know You, Jesus, and keep Your law of love. To love
God with all our heart, mind and soul and to love each other as You have loved us.

Heth  Teach me how to love

Have I not proclaimed that to keep Your words, Lord Jesus, is my desire?
With all of my heart I ask for mercy for my misdeeds, because You are
     faithful to Your promises.
I Have reflected on my ways, I want to change Lord Jesus and take my steps only
     on the pathway to God.
I do not hesitate to keep Your commands, but I know there is more, teach me how to love.
Though the snares of the misguided surround Your child, God, I strive to learn
Your ways with the light of each day.
During the dark od night, I wake to praise You, God, for Your ways are so wondrous.
I am the friend of all who fear You, God, and keep Your ways.
The earth, O God is filled with Your love, teach me Your ways.

   Lamed  Praises for Jesus

Long lasting and forever is Your word fixed in heaven, Jesus.
Through each generation Your truth endures, Jesus, solid like the earth we stand upon.
It is through Your hand, Jesus, that all of God's ways come to fulfillment,
for all creation is Your servant.
Had not Your teachings, Jesus, been my counselor and my delight, I would have perished
     long ago from my affliction.
I will never forget Your teachings, Jesus, for it was through Your word that I received
     a Christian new life.
I am Yours, Jesus, for You saved me and I cherish the ways of God.
My thoughts are on Your ways, O God, even though the misguided seek
     to destroy Your ways.
God is perfect, but no person can be perfect, although Your ways can bring us perfect love.

Ain  Holy Spirit teach us God's way

A just life I have tried to live, I know You Jesus, will keep me from all harm.
Your love for me I know, my life is in Your loving hands,
You protect me from the misguided.
You, O God the Holy spirit, teach me how to live my life doing God's will, day after day.
When Your laws are broken O God, You take action in Your own way and
     in Your own time.
Teach Your children, O God, to live Your ways, for truly they are more
     precious than the finest gold.
Let us love, following Your way shunning every deceptive path.

Resh   Teach us Your word and way

Renew Your children, O God; send forth the Holy Spirit to teach us Your way of love,
for we are afflicted and suffering.
Jesus, You have taken up the cause of the innocent and given us new life.
Salvation for the misguided is in their hands, to remember, to repent,
to be reconciled, is a step on Your pathway.
O Lord Jesus, Your gracious mercy is all encompassing to those who live
     the way of God.
Through those who persecute Your children are many, we will never stop loving You
     and living Your way God.
The sight of the faithless ones bring both deep feelings of compassion for they know not
Your way, God hound them until they repent and live Your ways.
Let us humbly live Your way God and ever be grateful for Your graciousness
as we live our new lives.
Jesus, Your word is alive in us and flows through all time.
